There are a couple different options for practice pants. There is no right or wrong option. It is up to the athlete.
You want pants that fit snugly, so they do not slide off as you run and collide with other players, but they shouldn't be overly tight.

Practice jerseys meant to be used during drills and scrimmage games, and are typically lightweight, simple mesh jerseys. Thinner and more breathable than game jerseys, and usually not as form fitting.

All of these products can be found at your local Dick's Sporting Goods (although their selection of pants/jerseys is limited in-store), Dick's Online or Amazon.

Integrated pants have all the pads built in.
Non-integrated do not have any pads. The wearer has to put pads into pre-sewn pockets within pants or wear a girdle.
Girdles are meant to be worn under non-integrated pants. They come in both 5 pad (no knee pad) and 7 pad.

Mouthguards must be able to attach to helmet.
Chin strap. Again, there are several different options. Just need to attach with 4 buttons to helmet.
